ABOUT ME

MY STORY

Bryony Sier is a singer-songwriter from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales. Bryony grew up surrounded by music. Her family was heavily involved in the local music scene, and she was introduced to a wide range of music from a young age. Her aunt taught her to play the guitar when she was 12, and she then went on to self-teach the finger-picking style by watching different YouTube videos and artists that she admired. Bryony has supported artists such as Molly Tuttle and Rachel Baiman, Rick Wakeman, Twin Bandit, Jo Harman, Toploader, Brian McFadden, The Blockheads, Joshua Radin, and Naomi Scott. She has worked with the likes of Amy Wadge and producer Charlie Francis. She has performed everywhere, from the British Country Music Festival to Tadstock, Brecon Jazz Festival, Nozstock, and Swn Festival. She is releasing her first 10-track album soon, with the first single set to drop in the next few months.

Personal Monster EP (2020)

“Bryony’s vocals really have room to breath, showcasing her range and gorgeous clear quality. Overall a wonderful EP full of strength and vulnerability, with catchy melodies, thought-provoking lyrics and subtle but effective production, which really serves each song.”

Review by Welsh Connections - Eleri Angharad

“Bryony won the hearts of the audience, as always, with an eclectic set based around her thoughtful and confessional self-penned songwriting, backed up by some accomplished guitar playing. She added a few favourites from Springsteen, Adele and the Killers, all done with her characteristic modesty, charm and flair.”

Review by Jim Kerslake

“Up first is Merthyr Tydfil’s Bryony Sier, a talented songwriter blessed with a mature voice that belies her young age, who treats the steadily filling room to a set of country-tinged blues.”

Review by Hugh Russell

“And the last act that I will mention here is the wonderfully talented Bryony Sier, who was performing alongside several other fantastically talented musicians at U&I radio. Her voice was phenomenal, and her original songs were impactful and heartfelt. However, the real clincher for me was when she performed a bluesy cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’, which one of my all-time favourite songs, and has now become one of my favourite versions of said song. Needless to say, it was absolutely fantastic, and I can’t recommend her enough.”

Review by Rory James

“It is hard to categorise Bryony Sier. The Welsh singer-songwriter has a rather eclectic sound. There are bits of blues, flecks of folk, glimpses of gospel. She is cut through with country, with a slice of soul, lightly packaged in pop. Her new EP Personal Monster displays an exciting mix of all of these various sounds, sown together to create a mottled tapestry from a thematic thread of personal identity. Despite the deeply personal nature of this record however, its musings on mental health in particular speak to a universal experience which make it highly relatable.”

Review by Gareth Williams

“Bryony cuts a slight and delicate figure, practically dwarfed by her big ol’ dreadnought guitar, but when she started to play she grew in stature until she filled the room; heads turned, eyes widened and ears opened like flowers. There’s always something wonderfully compelling and a little bit magical about seeing someone who’s capable of captivating human beings at this level; it’s akin to some form of hypnotism…and it’s not the sort of thing that can be faked, either – or even learned…you either have it, or you don’t; she has it.”

Review by Jack Sounds

“On the more traditional end of the country spectrum, but by no means confined to it, was another artist who I was delighted to discover through Focus Wales: Bryony Sier.

She is your typical modern country artist – putting the song first, holding to the ideal of three chords and the truth, but allowing herself to be influenced by that which lies outside of the traditional confines of the genre. Not that she can escape it altogether. One of her most important influences, apart from her family, is Johnny Cash. Listening to her latest EP Captivity, it is hard not to recognise the impact of the great man’s music on her own.”

Review by Hannah Compton

Bryony’s performance on the Tangerine Trees Stage was deeply personal and emotionally resonant, mixing folk-pop originals with a bold mash-up of well-known covers.

Stephen: “She balances vulnerability with strength, and the crowd absolutely loved her.”

Luke: “She absolutely killed it! Her lyrics around mental health really resonated - you can tell she’s lived it and continues to overcome it. I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.”

Dani noted her “Fantastically infectious” energy, while Lamsie added...

“Bryony’s been part of our team, and I’ve known her the longest of all the performers. She delivered a grounded, quirky and honest set that truly shone.”
