BOOKS

Author biography

My name is Bryony Sier, and I'm from a small town called Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales. I have just finished writing my first book, which has been ongoing for about twelve years. During our first lockdown, I completely rewrote it - from start to finish, as I thought it needed a bit of work. I released my first book ‘From Opposite Sides’ into the universe on June 14th 2023, and since then I have sold 70 copies, which is more than I thought possible!

I have been writing stories since a very young age. I struggled so much in high school to fit in and was bullied. I turned to songwriting and storytelling, which saved me from the harsh reality of what was currently going on around me. I would spend all my time writing stories and music, and it became a healthy way of channelling my emotions and feelings and putting them down on paper.

I love to read-mainly YA fiction, or contemporary romance. I’m very excited to continue writing stories and sharing them with the world!

Synopsis

The crowds of people become a blurry mass of colour, and I'm just tailing after them, another person who doesn't belong — another person pretending that she does.

Skye Clemons has a bit of a reputation. Unable to escape her past, she has one clear goal - to pass her language and literature course at college.

If only it were that simple.

Now having to share a class with wealthy students from Lakeside College, she must face her ultimate challenge - letting her guard down. They say that opposites attract, but Grayson Swain is proof that this myth doesn’t always ring true. He is the most annoying human being Skye has ever encountered, especially since he insists on calling her the class viper at every opportunity.

When they are paired up for a collaborative class project, they are expected to put their substantial differences aside and get to know each other, which will take a lot of work!

Fights and conflict seem to follow Rory Keaton wherever he goes, and he is a ticking time bomb. He also knows way more about Skye’s past than he should and makes it his mission to judge her.

Forced to get a job to avoid being evicted from her family home, Skye finds herself working at Trinity Stables and doesn’t expect to form an unlikely bond with a hot-tempered horse who seems to be facing his demons.

Some of the biggest challenges are yet to come - with the mysterious financial arrangements Skye stumbles upon and the mystery surrounding the father she has never met.

As secrets unveil themselves, Skye realises that maybe the past is best kept buried.

Reviews

Very well written for a first-time novelist. Emotional and powerful relating to real life struggles and also so funny and easy to read, with a great storyline and characters you’ll love... I can’t wait for the sequel.

An excellent debut novel from a very talented singer-songwriter and now Author. At 450ish pages it’s quite a long story, but Bryony’s writing style draws you in and ‘gallops along’ at a good pace. What I especially like is that there aren’t a large amount of characters in the book and you get a good feel for each characters good and bad points. There are a few twists and surprises and a good dose of humor sprinkled in. Bryony has broached issues such as class and upbringing differences, betrayal of trust, relationship struggles, financial woes and mental health, but at no point in the book do these issues ‘darken’ the atmosphere too deeply. A fine first outing for Skye, Grayson and Rory and I very much look forward to the follow up novel.

Reading this story reminded me how uncomfortable and perplexing life is when you’re a teenager! I enjoyed it and thought that my 16-year-old granddaughter would enjoy it too. She’s almost finished reading From Opposite Sides and she’s been recommending it to her friends.

What a way to begin your book writing journey! Fab story with very interesting characters. You also dealt with issues that people encounter in their everyday lives. I’m already looking forward to the second book and continuing where life takes Skye, Grayson and Rory.

You should be very proud of yourself as your book was simply amazing. I honestly could swear that I can’t believe that you could not get that published as I have read some books which have been absolute rubbish and couldn’t face reading past a few chapters. What a finish to the book, absolutely brilliant, can’t wait for your second book. So thrilled for you.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to others. I loved the characters and was especially rooting for Skye. It made me laugh a lot, but also tackled emotional subjects. The use of pictures, texts and posters inside the book is a brilliant touch and brings the story to life even more. There are really lovely illustrations of all the characters on the inside cover too which I thought was extra special. It was a pleasure to read and I look forward to many more books from Bryony in the future.

Doing my research on eventing!

Really well written and structured for a first time novelist. The time taken, emotional commitment and work put in is clear and evident. Clearly represents subjects and themes close to the author’s heart.
